10 Sep 2007: Mathematics Jobs Wiki 2007-2008
See the Mathematics Jobs Wiki 2007-2008. It is a chart of available academic research positions in mathematics and, hopefully, interviews, offers, and acceptances. The site is modelled on successful efforts in physics such as the Astrophysics Job Rumor Wiki.
If you have information about the job market, and in particular if you don't mind sharing information about your own interviews or offers, please consider posting it to the Mathematics Jobs Wiki. Such information can have real value to other job seekers. In the meantime, the wiki page could serve as a useful compilation of advertised research positions.
Also, although I (Greg Kuperberg) have helped edit this wiki page, someone without a current tenure-track appointment will read e-mail sent to the Wiki Moderator.
Update 2/11/08: The Math Jobs Wiki has been moved to a separate site.
14 Jun 2007: Meet the new Front
It's not the same as the old Front. (Apologies to The Who.)
After several years of procrastination and stage fright, I have sort-of finished revising what was the Front for the mathematics arXiv. It is now the Front for the whole arXiv. I was compelled to finish the work because of the new arXiv numbering scheme, which contradicted the old Front to the core. The new Front was always intended to be compatible, but even after the new numbering came, it took me two and a half months instead of the suggested one week. By the rule "multiply by π and switch to the next higher units", I am still a month ahead.
The new Front is only sort-of finished, because there are still bugs and missing features. Polite comments are more than welcome.
Users may also be interested in the movie The Front. It is the only major motion picture that starred Woody Allen, but that he didn't direct or write.
Correction 6/14/07: A user points out that Woody Allen was also in Scenes from a Mall.
11 Jun 2007: A demo of the Front 2.0
This is a "demo" of the Front 2.0, for the whole arXiv.
Update 6/14/07: The beginning "this" refers to the entire site that you are perusing right now; it is no longer just a demo.
30 Mar 2007: The Front will be in stasis from April 2; an upgrade awaits
The arXiv will switch to a new numbering scheme starting April 1. As a result, the existing Front will not be retrieving new data until a new Front is on-line. I cannot make any promises as to how long this will take, but it might possibly be only a week. When it is operational, the Front will look nicer and do some new things! Until then, you should go to the main arXiv site for announcements of new papers.
